Food Labeling Compliance Review Seminar and Update
Learn food labeling from former US Government labeling officials that helped shape current labeling regulations. This training will cover the basics of how foods need to be labeled to comply with the complex set of labeling rules, point out differences that exist between FDA and USDA requirements and provide answers the your most challenging questions. The optional Food Labeling Update has become so popular that most all those who attend the first two days elect to attend the Update as well. Those few who do not, wish that they had.

INSTRUCTORS
Elizabeth (Betty) Campbell
A 35-year veteran of FDA, Ms. Campbell served as the head of FDA’s Office of Food Labeling before becoming a labeling consultant in 1999. She played a key role in writing and implementing the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) regulations. She is currently a Vice President at EAS Consulting Group, LLC. Ms. Campbell is a dynamic speaker and an excellent trainer.
James E. Hoadley, Ph.D.
Dr. Hoadley’s 20-year FDA career, which began in 1987, includes work as a Research Scientist in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Division of Nutrition, and as a Toxicologist in performing food additive and GRAS petition safety reviews in the Office of Premarket Approval. With the passage of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) he participated in the development of NLEA-implementing nutrition labeling and health claim regulations. During the last ten years with the Agency he was a Senior Regulatory Scientist in the Office of Nutritional Products, Labeling and Dietary Supplements (ONPLDS) with primary responsibilities in food label claim regulations. In this role, he conducted scientific and regulatory reviews of petitions for new health claims and nutrient content claims. He joined EAS in 2007 as a contract consultant.
Gisela Leon
Gisela Leon is a consultant experienced in European food laws, multi-language labeling, and the legal clearance of package labeling of food and dietary supplements.
After receiving her Master’s degree in Food Technology Engineering, Ms. Leon received her DGQ Audit-Specialist Certification from the German Institute for Quality, and her Master’s in Business Administration from George Mason University. For over 20 years she worked at Schöller Lebensmittel GmbH & Co KG in Germany as a Director of Quality Management. While there she gained a wealth of experience in food law, assuring the marketability of 900 ice cream and bakery products that were sold in 25 countries in accordance with European food labeling laws and country regulations. Ms. Leon had 3 years of consulting experience with AAC/Kendle before joining EAS as a contract consultant in 2006.
Robert C. Post, Ph.D.
Dr. Robert C. Post was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, an Agency in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in September 2007. Dr. Post came to the Center after serving as the Director of the Labeling and Consumer Protection Staff in the Food Safety and Inspection Service, at USDA. As part of the Office of Policy, he had leadership responsibility for the USDA staff that developed, delivered, and communicated national consumer protection policies and programs in the areas of food, nutrition, and health claims labeling; food standards; and food ingredients used in the production of meat, poultry, and egg products distributed in domestic commerce and exported to the United States.
Before becoming Director, Dr. Post served in senior leadership positions in other FSIS programs -- Regulatory Programs; Technical Services; Inspection Operations; and Science and Technology.

UPDATE AGENDA
An agenda is not specified in advance since it changes to keep up with last-minute developments. Past Updates have included such topics as allergen labeling, trans fat, and standards of identity. Participants are encouraged to bring their own “problem” labels to discuss among other participants and to get expert guidance from the instructors.
